“Walking with a friend in the dark is better than walking alone in the light.” – Helen Keller

A sweet friendship refreshes the soul as Proverbs says (27:9). I can’t tell you how many times a friend has made my day better, just by being there. Whether they come just to hang out or to help on the farm or play with the kids so I can get something done. A good friend is undoubtedly a blessing from God; and sometimes, He uses them to speak to you.

I had a visit today from a friend and while she kept me company during farm chores, I told her about a decision that has been weighing on me. I have been praying for an answer and trying to not let my heart get in the way; trying to figure out what God’s will is for me in this situation but still feeling wrenched in both directions.

In very few and simple words, my friend answered my prayers. As she nonchalantly solved my dilemma in literal seconds, I felt utter peace for the first time about what to do. I can promise you, this friend did not know how profound her words would be to me nor that God used her to speak to me. However, there is no doubt that I was in the dark and she brought the light.

Don’t underestimate your friends or their influence in your life. Even if my friend hadn’t brought light this day, walking with my friend in the dark is better than walking alone.
