“Life is about making an impact, not making an income.”
Kevin Kruse
The world tells us to measure success in dollar signs. From the time we are young, we are asked, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” and the answers often revolve around careers, salaries, and titles. However, God’s Word calls us to something higher.
“Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven…”
Matthew 6:19-20
The people who leave the deepest mark on our lives are not the ones with the biggest bank accounts, but the ones who poured into us – parents who sacrificed, mentors who encouraged, friends who stood beside us through hard times, grandparents who lived their faith. People who are bold in their faith and unafraid to stand for the Truth even when it costs them.
In the end, it won’t matter how much income we brought home, but how much love, truth, and hope we poured out. Did we raise children who know God’s Word and walk in His ways? Did we love our spouse faithfully? Did we treat our neighbors with kindness? Did we take the time to serve when the world said we were too busy? Did we stand firm and bold in our faith and in Truth, no matter the cost?
At home with our families is one of the greatest places to live this out. Our homes are the training grounds. Every bedtime prayer with our children, every scrap of patience and faith in challenging times, every Scripture lived out in front of little watching eyes – those are seeds that will last far beyond money in the bank.
Work is important, of course. Scripture teaches the value of diligence and providing for our households but our jobs are not our ultimate purpose. They are simply tools God can use. Income is temporary. Impact is eternal. When we shift our focus from income to impact, everything changes. We give more freely, serve more joyfully, and live with a different perspective. We are storing treasures in heaven which no one can take away.
My children won’t remember how much money I made. But they will remember whether I lived out my faith, whether I loved them well, and whether I pointed them to Jesus. True success is found in the courage to stand for truth, the love we give our families, and the faith we pass on.
“So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.”
2 Corinthians 4:18
